![]() ![]() The book has more than one child who is abused because of their sleeplessness. ![]() I also found the world's hostility to the sleepless to be rather contrived. However, I found the characters to be exaggerated beyond the point of believability, especially the twins' parents. It also brings up issues of how the world reacts to people who have been genetically modified. It's interesting to think about what it would be like not to need sleep (you could do away with a whole room in your house, for starters). There is lots of interesting food for thought here: the sleepless people are generally smarter, happier, healthier, and more resilient than normal people. It examines the repercussions of sleeplessness, specifically how society reacts to a sleepless person, and to sleepless people as more parents select this modification for their children. It is the story of twins, one of whom has been genetically engineered so that she doesn't need sleep. This book comprises two parts: the original novella, and the longer novel written to extend the original novella. ![]()
